Leeds United are being connected with a surprise bid to capture one of the Championship’s top players, who is apparently looking for an escape after losing out on promotion last season.
The Whites are likely to be busy in the coming weeks, signing a few new players after only four so far, one of which is Joe Rodon, a permanent acquisition, and another a third-choice goalkeeper.
Only Jayden Bogle and Joe Rothwell genuinely added anything to Leeds’ squad last season, with Rodon on loan at Elland Road in 2023-24. Alex Cairns has stepped in to replace Kris Klaesson, although he is unlikely to play.
Pascal Struijk is back from injury, and Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson have returned to Elland Road following loan spells. Before the season start against Portsmouth on August 10, all three will be treated as new signings.
Leeds want to add an attacking midfielder and a fullback.
Farke has said it personally, and Nancy Froston reports in her recent Athletic piece that Leeds want two more signings if no one else leaves. He is looking for more cover at fullback, as he only has three alternatives.
The Leeds manager is also looking for a goal-scoring midfielder to replace Glen Kamara, and Norwich City’s Brazilian playmaker Gabriel Sara has been linked with the club this summer.
The 26-year-old scored a staggering 25 goals in 48 Championship appearances for Norwich last season, and the “outstanding” talent is thought to be valued at £17 million, with Leeds confident of a deal to capture Sara.
Gabriel Sara wants to leave Norwich, as Leeds are linked with a move.
The Brazilian, who Norwich paid £10 million for in 2022, is regarded as one of the greatest players in the Championship. He was named to the Championship Team of the Season due to his performance.
According to Give Me Sport, Sara is considering leaving Norwich after the club failed to achieve promotion after losing to Leeds in the semi-finals. Leeds might have a chance, but there is competition for Sara’s signature.
Indeed, Europa League winners Atalanta are rumored to be interested in the midfielder, who can play one of two positions in a 4-2-3-1 system or as a 10. Sara, a set-piece specialist, would make an excellent addition.
