O’Rourke: Update on Nottingham Forest and Nuno’s sacking

Evangelos Marinakis would have no problem removing Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo if he believes he is not the appropriate person for the job.

On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior writer Pete O’Rourke stated that the Forest owner is “very ambitious” following concerns about Nuno’s future.

Following Steve Cooper’s dismissal in December, the Portuguese manager signed a contract with the club until 2026.

Nuno guided Forest to Premier League safety despite receiving a four-point deduction for violating the league’s spending restrictions.

O’Rourke revealed that there has been speculation that Marco Silva, who has worked at Fulham in recent seasons, could replace the 50-year-old at the City Ground.

Nuno Espirito Santo may leave Nottingham Forest despite avoiding relegation.

Nuno has received considerable criticism from Forest fans for his defensive style of play since coming over.

However, despite overseeing 21 league games, his team scored 32 of their 49 Premier League goals under the Portuguese previous season.

That assured Forest’s place in the top tier next season, but it hasn’t prevented conjecture over his future at the City Ground.

O’Rourke revealed that Silva is unlikely to quit Fulham to join Nottingham Forest after signing a new contract until 2026 last October.

Forest are also thought to be in danger of breaking the financial regulations again this year, needing to achieve about £30 million in profit from player sales in the coming weeks.

Last month, Football Insider stated that the club will be compelled to sell players before the end of June in order to avoid receiving another point deduction.
