Daniel Farke said in his most recent press conference that he now wants Leeds United to sign two new attacking players.
Leeds had been looking for another winger to replace Crysencio Summerville, but after deciding to transfer Georginio Rutter to Brighton for £40 million, the recruitment team’s job became much more difficult.
Rutter’s exit will make Leeds the club with the most money in player sales throughout Europe this summer.
And, while Leeds will undoubtedly have money to spend, replacing them both will be nearly hard, given their combined 50 goals last season.
To soften the damage, Leeds will need to make some significant star acquisitions, or the 49ers may be in for a rough ride in the coming months.
Ben Jacobs claims Leeds might potentially bid for Jonathan Rowe
The 49ers have held their cards close to their chest when it comes to new additions during their tenure, but this is becoming increasingly difficult to believe as agreements take longer to complete.
However, one prospective target who has made public in recent weeks is Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe.
Leeds began a £7 million enquiry for Rowe nearly two weeks ago, but movement has been slow due to the fact that it is much lower than Norwich’s value.
However, with another £40 million expected to come in from the sale of Rutter, writer Ben Jacobs has informed Give Me Sport that this could lure them into making an official approach for Rowe.
He stated, “Leeds United would still prefer Jonathan Rowe. He is a priority name. We know Marseille has been bidding, but Leeds could enter the competition because Marseille has yet to reach an agreement.
“Norwich want more than £10 million, and with add-ons now closer to £15 million, it’s possible that a [Georginio] Rutter departure will allow Leeds to make a competitive bid, so that’s one to keep an eye on.
“Rowe prefers Marseille, again with European football and playing in a big-five league rather than going from Norwich to a Championship club – but Marseille haven’t agreed a deal, so Leeds might be able to do something there.”
What is the current state of play with Rowe?
The news of Leeds’ interest in the ‘unstoppable’ Rowe was initially reported in the media, but Marseille has been pressing the hardest this week.
After the Canaries rejected an initial offer last Friday, Marseille has returned with a second proposition, which is reported to be in the form of a loan with a future obligation.
Again, Norwich does not consider that acceptable, although conversations between the two sides are ongoing, with Rowe interested in moving to France.
If Leeds are to make a move, they must act soon, since he appears to be interested in joining only one club at the moment.
