One Steve Cooper decision could potentially be severely costly for Nottingham Forest (Opinion)

Steve Cooper made a choice regarding Gianni Vio just before leaving Nottingham Forest, which is currently becoming costly.

The head coach who guided Forest to the Premier League left the club in December after more than two years in command.

Shortly before his departure, he rejected down the opportunity to work with set-piece master Vio, which could possibly prove catastrophic for Forest.

So what was the scenario with Vio, Forest, and Cooper? Let’s look more closely.

Steve Cooper’s decision on Gianni Vio proved costly for Forest.

Well, it was generally believed that Evangelos Marinakis had asked Antonio Conte’s loyal set piece lieutenant, Vio, to visit Forest.

However, it was stated that Cooper had doubts and chose to appoint Simon Rusk to the position.

From the standpoint of Forest, this move appears to be incredibly dumb.

Although the Reds appear much more dangerous from their own set-pieces, they are still horribly awful at keeping them out.

Rusk is ultimately a youth team coach, and Cooper appears to have been determined to elevate him to the specialist job.

Ultimately, it ended badly, as Forest now have the most goals conceded from set pieces in the Premier League.

Forest could suffer the price for the coach’s decision.

Cooper done a lot of nice things for Forest, but appointing Simon Rusk instead if Vio isn’t one of his best moments.

Rusk lacks Vio’s expertise, and he has clearly done little to enhance the Reds’ defensive set-piece performance.

Forest are struggling without a qualified set piece coach with extensive experience, which might be very costly.

The Reds are already facing a points deduction due to financial infractions, and the squad is desperate for points.

If Forest does not address their flaws from set pieces, they will continue to sink without trace.
Forest’s failure to select Vio appears to be a severe blunder, as does Cooper’s choice of Rusk.
