Latest Nottingham Forest news: Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds beat Sheffield United 3-1 at Bramall Lane.
Nuno Espirito Santo lauded Nottingham Forest’s “important step” towards safety following their 3-1 victory over Sheffield United.
The Reds had to work hard and show grit to earn three points at Bramall Lane after falling behind to a Ben Brereton Diaz penalty. They weren’t at their best in the first half, but a Callum Hudson-Odoi goal put them level at halftime.
The visitors improved significantly in the second half, winning thanks to Ryan Yates’ first Premier League goal and another from Hudson-Odoi. It means they are three points clear of the bottom three with two games remaining, but Nuno has cautioned that nothing is finalised yet.
“It was enormous for us. It shows a lot after we surrendered to react and go in equal at half-time,” added the Portuguese, who is still waiting to hear whether the club’s appeal against their four-point penalty for breaking financial regulations was successful. “But we must remember that we made it through the first half alive. They were a lot better than us. Matz (Sels) played well and kept us in the game.
“The second half was completely different. We were considerably better. Better organisation, more dominant, more in control, and created positive outcomes. We scored and had opportunities to score additional goals.
“I’m quite happy. I’m happy for the supporters because they helped us get through the last few minutes of the first half.
“We need to keep going. It’s not over. It’s a big step, but we still have two games to go.
“I believe it is a crucial step; a critical step. But we still need to prepare and leave since the situation is not done.
“We still have two challenging games to play. The next one (against Chelsea) will be crucial for us at the City Ground. Let us try there.”
