Latest Nottingham Forest news as Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds prepare to play Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest’s head coach, is seeking for clarity on any potential point deduction as soon as possible.
The Reds were charged with violating the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in January. They appeared before an independent commission last Thursday and Friday as they began their defense against that claim.
The Premier League rules say that the commission “must provide its decision” within one week of the hearing’s conclusion. It means Forest could discover any potential punishment the day before their big game against Luton Town on Saturday.
But, far from being concerned about discovering their fate, Nuno feels the Reds would want to know sooner rather than later. He insists that his team’s primary emphasis is on the pitch.
“No, we are not nervous,” he declared ahead of this weekend’s match at Kenilworth Road. “We’ve been waiting since we learned that there would be a hearing. Let us wait and see.
“We don’t know precisely when it will occur. The club will take care of this. In terms of football, our team focuses solely on the pitch.
“We don’t know when it will come. I believe the sooner the better.”
With 10 games remaining, the Reds face the Hatters, who are only one spot and three points ahead of them in the table. Nuno’s side has now lost four games in a straight in all competitions, including Sunday’s 1-0 setback against Brighton and Hove Albion.
According to financial laws, Premier League clubs can only make a maximum deficit of £105 million over a rolling three-year period, or £35 million every season. For promoted teams, this is lowered, thus the Reds have been limited to losses of £61 million over the last three seasons – £13 million for the two seasons in the Championship before promotion, plus £35 million last season. It is unclear how far the club has gone beyond the limit.
