Nuno Espírito Santo’s departure may result in the loss of a key player for Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest could spring to life in the last weeks of the transfer market, as gossip about the Reds heats up.

Evangelos Marinakis hopes to recruit a striker this month. The Reds are short in that area of the field, and while Chris Wood has 14 goals, the lack of competition for his position is concerning.

Yoane Wissa has been linked to Forest this week. The Brentford talisman has scored 11 goals this season in the Premier League and is very much considered as one of the best forwards in the division.

Forest is now eyeing a huge move for Matheus Cunha. It is reported that the Reds want to break their transfer record to get him to the City Ground before the window closes next month.

Any forward arrivals could mean players going in the opposite way. Taiwo Awoniyi has been connected with West Ham, and there is now an update on his future.

Update on Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi

The Nigerian player has always given his all to Forest. However, injuries appear to have regressed him as a player, and Nuno Espirito Santo may be looking to sign a more reliable option.

Soccer Net in Nigeria believes that Awoniyi is willing to leave Forest. It is stated that the player wants to play more games but does not see that happening at the City Ground, where wood is in excellent form.

Awoniyi is only 27 years old and certainly believes that he is good enough to play somewhere. When he does get minutes at Forest, he appears to be out of sorts recently, as if the injuries have taken their toll.

Awoniyi’s exit makes lots of sense.

Forest has outgrown Awoniyi this season. The Nigerian was fine for the Reds throughout their relegation battle, but with European football now looking certain, better players are needed.

If Forest do get a new striker in this month, it would make sense to let Awoniyi leave. If he did become available it seems almost guaranteed that clubs would come up with offers.

Awoniyi joined the Reds for £18 million from Union Berlin, and he scored 11 goals during the 2022/23 season to keep them in the Premier League.

If force comes to shove and Awoniyi leaves Forest, he deserves to be respected, but based on his recent performances, perhaps the time has come for him to move on.
