Nottingham Forest’s points deduction sends a hint to Leicester City, as Leeds United watch on

The latest Leeds United news as sources suggest that Leicester could be charged with a financial rule violation, with Nottingham Forest learning of their punishment on Monday.

An independent committee has penalised Nottingham Forest with a points punishment for violating the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs), potentially indicating what lies ahead for Leicester City as Leeds United watch.

According to reports in recent weeks, Leicester, who Leeds surpassed at the weekend at the top of the Championship table, are expected to be penalized by the Premier League for an alleged infringement of financial rules. If that charge is made, the club may lose points.

If they secure an immediate return to the Premier League, any deductions are expected to occur at the start of the next season. It is stated that if Leicester had remained in the top flight last season, they would have faced a similar charge as Everton and Forest.

Both clubs were charged in January for their violations. Leicester’s relegation before the new rules were implemented means that any potential punishment against the club has been postponed.

The Premier League revealed on Monday that Forest had four points deducted for breaching the PSR. The club can challenge that deduction.

Everton were docked 10 points earlier this season for a regulation violation from the previous year. However, on appeal, the deduction was lowered to six.

The punishment imposed on Forest may provide insight into what Leicester may expect if charges are made against them between now and the start of next season. The club is anticipated to reveal its 2022/23 financial figures by the end of the month.

If the league table remains as is, both Leeds and Leicester will be promoted at the end of the season. Both might compete in the Premier League again, and any potential deduction could put Leicester at a disadvantage in a struggle for survival.
