Nottingham Forest’s 2024/25 Premier League campaign begins in just over one week.
Nuno Espirito Santo must be pleased with how Forest’s summer has turned out so far, with six new signings.
The Reds will play one more friendly against Olympiacos on Thursday night before focusing entirely on the start of the new season.
Forest’s Premier League season will begin next weekend with a visit from Bournemouth, allowing the Reds to adequately showcase their summer recruits.
But there may still be time to make some more deals before the Cherries visit the City Ground.
Forest has made touch with one player, but a deal will be difficult to complete before the deadline at the end of the month.
Nottingham Forest have now phoned about ‘great’ players.
Forest have performed admirably during a strange summer transfer window for most Premier League clubs.
Evangelos Marinakis has certainly been a busy guy, having sanctioned numerous arrivals and departures at Forest.
The Reds went into the summer knowing they’d be up against PSR, but that hasn’t prevented them from giving Nuno what he needs to improve his options.
According to journalist Martijn Krabbendam, Forest has inquired about the potential of signing Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez.
However, the writer admits that the Reds would face difficulties in completing the transaction this summer.
“There is some interest in Gimenez, and Nottingham Forest has called,” he revealed on the Dick Voormekaar Podcast.
“I can’t imagine Gimenez would like that, unless the amount is huge.”
“There is chatter that he will and can still travel. Gimenez must be sold at some point. They already have Ueda and Carranza. So they’ve got all these strikers.”
Forest must assess the risks of signing Santiago Gimenez.
The Mexico international had an astounding 23 goals and six assists in the Dutch top flight alone.
And the ‘great’ attacker has already made an impressive start to the new season, scoring twice in the Johan Cruijff Schaal against PSV Eindhoven.
However, when the striker struggled in the second half of the 2023/24 season, it is time to consider the risks and rewards.
Feyenoord has never paid more than €30 million (£24.5 million) for a player in their history, and that came earlier this summer with Mats Wieffer.
So the meaning of ‘enormous’ may need to be reconsidered, given that the Dutch side may be unable to secure a club record sale from Forest following Gimenez’s dismal second half of last season.
