The latest Nottingham Forest news, as the midfielder left the City Ground in the summer transfer window and is impressing in Turkey.
Former Nottingham Forest player Jonjo Shelvey has produced his second amazing goal of the season, just months after leaving the City Ground.
Shelvey moved to Forest from Newcastle United in January 2023. He made only eight appearances for the club before being frozen out by former manager Steve Cooper, with his final game coming in a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa in April of last year.
This summer, he joined Turkish side Rizespor. While it was initially considered to be a loan, it was later discovered that Forest had freed the midfielder from his contract and he had signed a permanent one-year contract with the Turkish side.
The 32-year-old has excelled over his first few months with his new team. He has made 23 league games and scored twice.
Shelvey’s first goal came in November, when he scored from his own half to help Rizespor defeat Istanbulspor 1-0. This weekend, the midfielder doubled his goal total after opening the scoring in a 3-0 victory over Kayserispor.
In the 62nd minute, Shelvey scored with a free kick from just beyond the box. Altin Zeqiri and Dal Varesanovic scored late goals to give Turkey a comfortable win.
Shelvey’s remarkable strike comes as reports suggest he is garnering interest from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. He has less than six months left on his contract, as he only signed for one year.
According to the Telegraph, if Shelvey decides to stay in Turkey, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce may be choices. However, other European teams are keeping an eye on his growth. Because of his contract position, he is free to discuss his future with abroad teams.
