Felipe has indicated that he will quit Nottingham Forest at the conclusion of the season, implying that he may retire.
The Brazilian joined the City Ground in January 2023 from Atletico Madrid, where he played an important role in their successful survival bid the previous season. Felipe appeared in all but two league matches from February onwards in 2022/23, helping the Reds stay up with one game to spare.
However, the 34-year-old has been sidelined for much of the season due to a major knee injury, limiting him to only seven appearances in Garibaldi Red this season. The centre-back has now decided to depart Forest when the season concludes in May.
Felipe said on Instagram that the current season would be his last with the Reds, implying that he may now retire from the professional game entirely. “Hello to everyone…. “Today I’m here to make a statement about my future,” he explained.
“I’ve given it a lot of thought over the last few months, and my family and I have decided on my football future. There were wonderful experiences, a career for which I am grateful, playing for great teams in four different countries, the Brazilian national team, and a lot of history to tell for the rest of my life.
“But it’s time to leave the lawns, and the plan is to end the season here in Nottingham Forest, England.” It is still too early to explain the reasons, which I will do in the future since I still have a contract with him and want to honor him like I have with all of the clubs I have protected.
“But, out of respect for the clubs that have been seeking for me in the future, as well as my current club, I wanted to come here to push this matter and talk openly and honestly. Thank you, and let us make the most of the remaining months with delight, passion, and dedication.”
