Nottingham Forest’s £70 million-rated star is vital to securing new signings

Nottingham Forest fans may have received a strong signal concerning the future of Brazilian defender Murillo.

Murillo, a 21-year-old defender who joined Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023, made an immediate impact during his first season in the East Midlands.

He was a frequent starter under Cooper and was also favored by new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who replaced the Englishman following a bad start to the season during his tenure.

Murillo’s impressive performances for the East Midlands side have piqued the curiosity of a number of clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

Forest’s new signing explains Murillo’s significance.

Despite being linked with a move away from the City Ground this summer, it appears that the young defender, who signed a five-year contract with the club when he arrived, is still attempting to speak with possible acquisitions.

Forest have completed the signing of goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, who joins the club from Corinthians, where Murillo previously played.

The 25-year-old is 6ft 8in tall and has signed a four-year contract with the Premier League. Miguel established himself in the Brazilian first squad last season, appearing in 14 matches across all competitions.

Miguel was questioned in an interview with the club’s media outlets if his new teammate Murillo had told him about Forest.

“Yes, absolutely; Murillo provided the first information,” Miguel explained. “I asked him about both the club and the city. I inquired about the club’s operations because it is critical to understand everything ahead of time.

“He said great things and was exuberant about this club, which made me really happy.”

Murillo implies he could stay at the club.

If Miguel is true, Murillo’s excitement in Forest and the Premier League is a strong indication that he may stay at the club.

With only a year of experience in the East Midlands, Murillo’s departure from the City Ground would be surprising, but there is interest from around the Premier League.

Murillo joked about Chelsea’s alleged interest in the defender and admitted Forest was a’stepping stone to a better club’.

Forest, for their part, are expected to seek roughly £70 million for the Brazilian, which is comparable to Everton’s asking price for Jarrad Branthwaite.
