Nottingham Forest wrath as red card demand goes unheeded in Brighton defeat

Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive: Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood question VAR decision on potential Brighton sending off.

Morgan Gibbs-White kept his mouth in check after Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 loss to Brighton.

Forest, who dominated the second half at the Amex Stadium, were disappointed when Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder was not sent off in the 67th minute for a lunging challenge on Neco Williams.

Andrew Omobamidele’s first-half own goal gave the Seagulls the lead, and the visitors were unable to counter when Divock Origi missed their best chance of a rainy Sunday afternoon on the south coast.

But Gibbs-White was sure that a key decision had gone against his team again, only a week after missing out on a controversial Liverpool winner at the City Ground.

He stated, “Very frustrating, but we seem to say the same things every week. The supporters and the manager both deserve more.

“We had more opportunities, which is sad, but we cannot keep repeating that every week. For the first 15-20 minutes, we weren’t doing anything.”

On the VAR review for a potential Moder red card, Gibbs-White added: “It is getting absurd. Truly ridiculous. This season has seen an unprecedented number of rulings go against us. I don’t want to speak too much since I might get in trouble, yet there are so many things I want to say. In two days, we will receive another apology.

Teammate Chris Wood added: “I haven’t seen it back so I can’t say too much, but from my position on the pitch, it looked like he collected him quite healthy, to put it that way.

“If the referee had called red, it would not have been overturned. We must control what we can control; we cannot control referees. “We haven’t had much luck with referees this season.”

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team is now only three points above the relegation zone following their defeat.

Wood went on to say, “We started out okay, but acceptable isn’t enough in this league. We only started playing after they had taken a 1-0 lead, which is unacceptable in this league.

“They took a chance. We had a couple of chances, but their goalkeeper made excellent saves on both. We need to improve in both boxes, keeping them out and scoring.
