Nottingham Forest are open to adding an attacking player in the January transfer window, with more goals needed to back the dangerous Chris Wood.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is almost suffering for their impressive start to the season in the transfer window, as the Forest squad’s excellent form makes it difficult to identify any major flaws in the group.
Forest have been offered Yuri Alberto as a center striker, while Crystal Palace are leading the fight for Romain Esse, who appeared to be an interesting wide player.
Of course, Forest is still interested in Santiago Gimenez, but if that deal fails like it did in the summer window, Evangelos Marinakis will realize that new targets are required if he is serious about presenting Espirito Santo with a new attacker.
Having said that, one rumor claims Forest not only prioritized another option, but also had an offer for the European star denied.
Nottingham Forest have rejected a deal for Baris Yilmaz.
According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, Forest’s bid of £21 million for Galatasaray winger Baris Yilmaz was refused.
Forest had already been linked with Yilmaz in January, but just as a rumour, so the news of an actual proposal was startling.
The story suggests that Forest is unfazed by the rejection, stating that: “They’re [Forest] ready to return and try again with a fresh attempt [for Yilmaz].
While the Turkish giants appear unwilling to sell one of their greatest assets, Yilmaz’s numbers this season are remarkable, especially when compared to his direct counterpart in the Forest squad, Anthony Elanga.
Baris Yilmaz statistically outperforms Anthony Elanga.
Yilmaz’s attacking threat could help to alleviate Wood’s goal-scoring responsibility, which he does far better than Elanga statistically.
Stats | Baris Yilmaz | Anthony Elanga |
Appearances | 26 | 21 |
Goals | 9 | 3 |
Assists | 1 | 4 |
Chances created per 90 | 0.99 | 1.77 |
Shots on target per 90 | 1.39 | 0.72 |
Successful dribbles per 90 | 1.79 | 0.56 |
While Elanga creates more chances per 90 minutes, Yilmaz has scored more goals and taken more shots on goal than the Forest player.
Notably, Yilmaz outperforms Elanga in dribbling statistics, which Espirito Santo would profit from because it boosts his team’s ability to counterattack.
If Forest does return for Yilmaz, his mix of goal scoring threat and dribbling skill might make him a uniquely dangerous addition to the Forest club, potentially at the expense of Elanga.
