Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as the Reds continue to undertake summer window business before the new season.
Nottingham Forest are expected to announce their fourth signing of the summer during the first week of preseason.
The Reds’ preparations for the 2024/25 Premier League season will pick up this week as players report back for duty before returning to action with a friendly against Chesterfield on Saturday. They also plan to have another new face in the dressing room.
The tale of goalkeeper Carlos Miguel’s planned move from Corinthians has been dragging on for some time, but it appears to be nearing an end. The Brazilian was scheduled to have a medical over the weekend after jetting over from his own country.
The tale of goalkeeper Carlos Miguel’s planned move from Corinthians has been dragging on for some time, but it appears to be nearing an end. The Brazilian was scheduled to have a medical over the weekend after jetting over from his own country.
Miguel’s contract had a release clause worth 4 million euros (£3.4 million), which is alleged to have been triggered. Assuming all goes as planned, he will join Marko Stamenic, Eric da Silva Moreira, and Elliot Anderson in signing a contract at the City Ground, though Stamenic has already left for a season-long loan with Olympiacos.
However, the 25-year-old is unlikely to be Forest’s final signing. The club still has a lot of work to do in the transfer market as it seeks to bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
The Reds are currently lacking in centre-back depth. Joe Worrall is anticipated to go, with Sheffield United showing interest. Jonathan Panzo may possibly leave, and Murillo’s future is uncertain.
Lyon’s Jake O’Brien has been connected, with Forest lately dealing with the French club over the trades of Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala. The 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international would undoubtedly fit the Reds’ tendency for signing young players.
Everton and West Ham United are also reportedly interested in O’Brien, with the former valuing him around £20 million. However, French website Foot01 reports that the Reds are “very interested” and are “getting close” to Lyon’s 35.5 million euros (£30 million) asking price.
Forest are also reportedly interested in Red Bull Salzburg center-back Strahinja Pavlovic. According to HITC, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Fulham, Brentford, and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all keeping an eye on the Serbia international.
With Premier League sides returning to pre-season training this week, transfer activity could pick up. The Reds should also consider their full-back resources and the top end of the pitch.
There will also be an emphasis on controlling more outgoings in the coming weeks. A good start has been made on that front, but Worrall, Panzo, Matt Turner, Lewis O’Brien, Alex Mighten, Josh Bowler, Hwang Ui-jo, and Emmanuel Dennis could still leave.
