Nottingham Forest targets Arsenal move as ‘bidding war’ begins

The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news, as the club reportedly set their sights on Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah before the summer window closes.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly among the Premier League clubs interested in signing Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

On the eve of the Premier League’s return, Nuno Espirito Santo is still aiming to complete deals in order to field the strongest possible team in his first full season at the City Ground. As acquisitions were completed this summer, the manager was required to examine Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), and he is ‘100 percent positive’ that everything will be well.

As Taiwo Awoniyi, whose fitness is frequently called into question, and 32-year-old Chris Wood remain his only alternatives up front, a late-season move for a striker has been mooted. Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord has been heavily touted, but the most recent update shows the answer may be closer to home.

According to Sky Sports, the club is interested in signing Nketiah, who wants regular first-team action, even if it means leaving his boyhood club three years before his current contract expires. The 25-year-old has been an important squad member for Mikel Arteta, although he has not started a competitive match since December 2023.

This revelation follows a story by sister site football.london, which claimed top-flight rivals are interested as the Gunners prepare for a ‘bidding war’. However, Forest’s alleged competitors all have reasons to believe they are not a significant threat.

Crystal Palace is the first opponent identified with ‘long-term interest’, but no agreement has been made based on their previous attempts to learn the terms of the move. Bournemouth is also thought to be interested, but they have subsequently agreed on a deal with FC Porto to sign Brazilian forward Evanilson.

Marseille, now led by former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, reportedly turned down two offers for the striker, who scored 38 goals in 168 Arsenal appearances earlier this summer. They have since moved on, signing Elye Wahi from RC Lens.
