Latest Nottingham Forest news as Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds prepare for the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is thought to have signed a new deal.
The deal the Nigel Doughty Academy graduate signed in 2022 was set to expire next summer. But, according to The Athletic, he has now agreed to terms until June 2028.
Yates has made almost 200 appearances and scored 18 goals for the Reds. He was a major member of the 2022 promotion-winning team and has remained an important component of the Premier League since then.
Last season, he appeared 40 times in all competitions as the club secured its third consecutive top-flight campaign. After coming close several times, he finally scored his first Premier League goal in a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United in May.
“Obviously, I am delighted for him. He has made 201 appearances for the club; we understand what he means and how he feels,” head coach Nuno Espirito Santo said of Yates later.
“I’m happy, but I admire the effort he put in in the middle of the pitch with all the duels. When the game got rough, Yates gave us these things. This is what we rely on Yates for, but I am satisfied with the outcome.”
Former manager Steve Cooper appointed Yates as vice-captain. Last season, the 26-year-old frequently wore the captain’s armband, leading the team out when skipper Joe Worrall did not play, until being loaned to Besiktas in February.
