The winger scored for the Reds tonight, and he has a big summer ahead of him.
Alex Mighten scored for Nottingham Forest’s academy against Bournemouth today, but the club has been informed that the winger should be released.
Mighten’s summer with the Reds is unknown, as his contract at the City Ground expires. But he demonstrated his ability today, scoring in a 3-2 win over Bournemouth.
Mighten agreed to a season-long loan with KV Kortrijk, who finished last season at the basement of the Belgian Pro League. During his four-month tenure, he competed in twelve different contests.
He then joined Port Vale in January, but only made 10 appearances due to a foot injury, and the team was eventually relegated to League Two.
Mighten’s future has been a source of contention among Reds fans, as he has been with the club since joining their academy at the age of nine. Here’s what they shared on social media.
Dave Holmes: “There’s definitely a player there, but his recent loan moves have slowed his development; some of that was bad luck, but generally the clubs we’ve sent him to haven’t suited him; Darren Moore being hired at Port Vale after not playing him at Wednesday was especially unlucky.” With this being the final year of his contract, you’d think the club would be pleased to let him go permanently, but a loan to Rio Ave wouldn’t be surprising either.
Matt H. responded: “If we have a small squad like Nuno likes I’d keep him around till January and have him train with the first team I think that would boost his confidence and might see him learn from the better players.”
Matt Barnett: “I’d be very surprised if his career improves beyond L1, possibly bouncing up and down to the lower Championship.” He has never looked good enough for #nffc and has not performed well at any of his loan clubs.
Connor: “If there is permanent interest, I believe he will depart, most likely for free. He’ll never make the squad now. Too many failed loans; a club needs to establish roots and develop into the decent player that is lurking there.”
ME: “He isn’t good enough for Forest.” It’s time to cash in.
