According to reports from Brazil, Nottingham Forest defender Murillo is being considered for his first-ever call-up to Dorival Junior’s national team.
Murillo’s qualities have been noticed by elite European teams, and his national team is now turning their attention to the Nottingham Forest central defender.
Last season, the 22-year-old’s performances under Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo helped the team secure Premier League safety. Now, the £11 million signing has returned to form, and he, along with new partner Nikola Milenkovic, has helped the team preserve its unbeaten start.
Displaying his ability to play at an advanced level may only serve to raise a transfer question that Forest will be desperate to avoid for as long as possible, but it may also result in individual rewards in appreciation of their player’s abilities.
According to EPSN Brazil, national team manager Dorival Junior has submitted a preliminary list of 45 players to FIFA for consideration in World Cup qualifiers next month against Chile (11/10/24) and Peru (16/10/24). Murillo is on the list, and as a result, he might make his senior Brazil debut.
He’ll have to wait until Friday to find out if he made the final 23-man cut, but if he does, it’ll be a well-deserved triumph given his performance in England.
Unfortunately for Forest, the next step of testing would give his several rumored suitors another platform from which to scout him. Just this week, Real Madrid was rumored to be conducting research on Murillo, with the Premier League’s top clubs and Bayern Munich also interested.
That being said, if he gets called up, makes his debut, and eventually becomes a trusted pick for the five-time World Cup winners, his worth will only rise as a result of his accomplishments on the international stage.
When interest grew during the summer, he decided to stay at the City Ground, though Nuno and Co will be well aware that, with international opportunities to consider, this may not reflect what he sees as best for his career in the long run.
