Nottingham Forest are still looking for new players, and the majority of those linked with moves to the club have piqued the interest of the fans.
However, that changed this afternoon.
Few links have received such negative feedback this summer, making for a nice difference when perusing through social media networks.
However, it appears like Forest will try to make a move that will not be popular with many of its supporters.
Nottingham Forest makes a bid to re-sign loan player
This is a strange link, and it has been a long time coming this summer, but it makes little sense.
According to TyC Sports journalist Gaston Edul, Forest will now submit a permanent bid to sign Gonzalo Montiel.
The World Cup and Copa America winner from Argentina is currently in limbo and desperately wants to leave Sevilla.
Montiel is wanted off the balance sheet at his current club, and their desire to sell may allow him to transfer on the cheap this summer.
However, during his tenure at Forest, he was polarizing, with fans reacting negatively to this particular piece of news.
At 27, the player is of a reasonable age, and if the price is good, this may not be the worst trade in the world.
Last season, Montiel played in huge wins over Newcastle and Manchester United, but he didn’t really win over Nuno Espirito Santo.
The player made 19 appearances for Forest in all competitions and assisted twice.
His playing time was exceedingly inconsistent, and as a result, his performances were marred by a lot of inconsistencies.
Forest would be wise to move forward from Montiel.
There won’t be many clubs in Europe that would turn their attention to a man who appeared 32 times for the defending world champions, but that’s where Forest is!
Montiel was adequate for the Reds without being outstanding, and it is safe to conclude that this would be an unimpressive addition.
However, if signing Montiel on the cheap enables Forest to go all-out in search of a big-money striker, this may be a worthwhile deal.
Neco Williams has been linked with a move to Atalanta, putting Forest in need of a right back.
Montiel might be the player with the necessary experience to bring out the best in Eric da Silva Moreira.
This does feel like a lot of agency talk, and Forest supporters would be advised not to believe every link at this point.
