Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news: Morgan Gibbs-White attracts interest from Newcastle United.
Newcastle United’s pursuit of not one, but two Nottingham Forest players may be halted as summer transfer activity heats up.
Talks are alleged to have taken place between the Reds and the Magpies about a prospective swap move for Anthony Elanga, with Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson being mentioned as possible candidates to go the other way. However, it appears like Forest is firmly in control of any debates.
The impending sales of Orel Mangala and Moussa Niakhate to Lyon could help the Reds balance their books. The accounting deadline for compliance with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules is Sunday (June 30), and Forest are expected to avoid a breach until the duo’s move to France.
It suggests they don’t need to move on Elanga and rather to keep him. Newcastle, on the other hand, is expected to need to collect funds by the end of the month in order to stay inside PSR.
According to HITC, in addition to Elanga, the team inquired about the availability of long-term target Morgan Gibbs-White. The attacker, however, was “too expensive” for the Magpies.
Gibbs-White has many admirers following two successful seasons at the City Ground. Tottenham Hotspur is among the clubs that have previously expressed interest in him.
However, Forest holds him in great regard. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers player and centre-back Murillo are the club’s two greatest assets, with each worth around £60-70 million.
Speaking after last season’s final game, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that some of his top players would be in demand this summer. The Portuguese also expressed his displeasure that clubs were obliged to sell some of their greatest players in order to comply with the criteria. It occurred after the Reds were penalized four points last season for a PSR violation.
