Nottingham Forest could allow a ‘very special’ player to depart on loan this summer, with MLS side eager

Nottingham Forest did not waste time in the transfer market this summer, with five new faces already at the club.

Nuno Espirito Santo has also had a successful start to the summer on the pitch, with Forest winning two of their three friendlies.

However, this does not mean Forest have not had to sell players in recent weeks.

Last month, the Reds needed to balance the books against PSR, which they accomplished with the exits of Orel Mangala and Moussa Niakhate.

Nuno may now be preparing to say goodbye to another of his players, with genuine interest in his availability developing from a variety of leagues.

Following a turbulent season, Forest will be hoping to escape any further relegation fears this year.

Despite the fact that he only came halfway through the 2023/24 season, Evangelos Marinakis appears to be doing everything he can to give Nuno the tools he needs to take over this side.

And so far, so good for Forest this summer, with promising performances in their first three preseason games.

However, there are still weeks left in the transfer market, with the possibility of many more arrivals and exits, including one player who has sparked significant interest.

According to Alan Nixon, LAFC are now seriously considering recruiting Lewis O’Brien on loan this summer.

Forest are aiming to transfer the midfielder for the 2024/25 season after he just returned from a loan spell at Middlesbrough.

However, interest is not limited to the MLS, as Sheffield United and Burnley have expressed interest despite having a bloated team.

    Lewis O’Brien has MLS experience.

The 25-year-old has previous experience in the MLS, having made 19 appearances for DC United last year.

Given that O’Brien has already spent time in the United States, this may benefit LAFC.

However, the midfielder has previously been described as’very talented’, and he may now see returning to the MLS as a step down from English football.

Since signing in 2022, O’Brien has only made 17 appearances for Forest, and none of them have come under Nuno, who plainly does not have the midfielder in his plans.
