Latest Nottingham Forest news as Reds prepare for vital summer transfer window.
Nottingham Forest may turn to a familiar face this summer as they consider a rearrangement of their offensive resources.
The future of striker Taiwo Awoniyi is in the limelight as the transfer market opens next Friday. He has piqued West Ham United’s interest, and it appears that the Reds are looking for a replacement if the Nigeria international leaves.
According to the Daily Mail, Forest is ready to “listen to offers” for Awoniyi. If they let him go, they might consider moving Ben Brereton-Diaz.
Brereton-Diaz departed the City Ground for Blackburn Rovers in a £7 million deal in January 2019, after first joining on loan. He made 57 appearances for the Reds and scored nine goals.
He left Ewood Park as a free agent last summer and signed a four-year contract with Villarreal. A few months after moving to Spain, he joined Sheffield United on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season.
The 25-year-old scored six goals in 16 appearances for the Blades but was unable to save the club from relegation. One of his goals came against his former club, when he started the scoring from the penalty spot before Forest won a critical 3-1 at Bramall Lane last month.
Awoniyi came off the bench that day, marking his comeback from the sidelines. Despite being limited by injuries throughout his two years at Trentside, the forward man has scored a number of important goals.
