Nottingham Forest connected with a transfer move for Aston Villa defender

Nottingham Forest transfer news and gossip: they’re linked with a bid for Aston Villa defender Lamare Bogarde.

Lamare Bogarde, an Aston Villa teenager, might be the next player to depart the club this summer, with Nottingham Forest reportedly set to make an approach that would send him across the Midlands. Bogarde spent the entire calendar year 2023 on loan with Bristol Rovers, joining in January and having his loan cut short at the start of this year after falling out of favour with new boss Matt Taylor.

Bogarde, a Dutch youth international, was taken out of the Feyenoord academy by Villa in September 2020, but he has only made one appearance in the Villa first team since the move – and that came in an FA Cup tie against Liverpool in 2021, when the entire Villa first-team squad was forced to isolate due to a coronavirus >Covid outbreak and an academy side was fielded instead.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Forest are interested in bringing him to the City Ground and adding him to their ranks for around 4 million euros. Romano adds that Bogarde, 20, will be left to decide whether he wants to join the Reds.

Forest, under Nuno Espirito Santo, have had their own summer clearout and are eager to make additions. Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel is expected to arrive from Corinthians in Brazil, and they have also completed the signing of Marko Stamenic from Red Star Belgrade and sent him straight out on loan to Olympiacos for the new season.

Villa, meanwhile, is allowing talented youngsters to leave quite steadily at the moment; Tim Iroegbunam has joined Everton for a fee of £9 million after spending three years at Villa Park following his move from West Brom in 2021, while Omari Kellyman, who only joined from Derby County in 2022, is expected to complete a £19 million move to Chelsea in the summer. Bogarde might be the latest academy-developed talent to go.
