Nottingham Forest and Reds fans have had another season of turbulence. In addition to trying to remain in the Premier League, there were manager sackings, point deductions, and disagreements about VAR. Finally, there are concerns over the club’s future at the City Ground.
Wow! What else could’ve happened? Let’s not go there, because relegation was avoided in the end, and for the second consecutive season, but it did appear that fate was conspiring against Nuno Espirito Santo and his club.
The Portuguese manager’s displeasure was on full display as odd controversies were added to the typical management grist for the mill of injuries, bans, and players losing form at inconvenient moments.
But the Reds pulled through. They stood up for themselves after some stunning refereeing mistakes, confronted the Premier League over their inexplicable player spending limits, and emerged victorious after another relegation battle. For the time being, the future of City Ground should be put on hold.
That, like so many other concerns at the club, will be addressed next season, as will the construction of a team capable of eventually competing in the top flight without violating those financial restrictions once more. Both this season and last, there have been signs that Forest is getting there, and several of last summer’s acquisitions are looking the part. However, there will be more tinkering this summer, particularly if one of Forest’s big players has be moved to help balance the books.
As fans reflect on a tumultuous campaign, we’ve assembled an end-of-season survey that asks about the highs and lows of 2023/24, as well as the challenges that lie ahead in 2024/25. It is your opportunity to provide feedback on what Forest is doing well and where they may improve. And once you’ve had an opportunity to participate, we’ll write up the results to give you a fan’s perspective on Nottingham Forest as the club prepares for another successful summer.
