Nottingham Forest will face a “very significant” fine after accusing Premier League referees of bias.
That is according to financial expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest’s internet outburst has cost them “goodwill” from fans.
Forest issued a statement on Twitter following their 2-0 loss against Everton on Sunday (April 21) regarding “extremely poor” refereeing decisions.
The club claimed they were denied three penalty decisions at Goodison Park after protesting to the PGMOL that the video assistant referee on duty was a Luton Town fan.
Forest has already sent out two more tweets on its official account, announcing that they have made a formal request to PGMOL to provide audio recordings to the public.
Nottingham Forest to be punished by the FA for online outburst.
Maguire believes Forest will now face a significant fine “at the very least” for claiming that referees are prejudiced.
“The FA has no choice but to prosecute Nottingham Forest for not just the first tweets issued following the match on Saturday, but also for Forest’s decision to double down on their subsequent comments.
“This is likely to result in a large fine, but Evangelos Marinakis can afford to dig deep given his fortune.
“However, in terms of optics, no matter what you think of referees, implying that they are biased is overstepping
“Nottingham Forest have lost an awful lot of goodwill from this, especially from many people who thought that they were harshly treated with regards to the charges.”
