John Percy has provided an update on a Nottingham Forest deal that is expected to go through in the coming days.
The Reds are desperately seeking to unload players in order to meet financial fair play standards.
PSR is making many Premier League clubs worried, and Forest will want to avoid a points deduction next season.
With only a few days remaining for clubs to balance their books as part of the latest cycle, Forest are finally ready to act.
A number of Forest players are desired by big teams, but an unexpected agreement appears to be on the way to saving the Reds.
John Percy provides an update on Forest star Moussa Niakhate.
This one was pretty unexpected.
Lyon are reportedly interested in signing Moussa Niakhate as Forest attempt to rebalance their roster and finances.
Percy now believes Niakhate is on the verge of joining Lyon, with the Reds ready to recuperate £20 million for him.
After being promoted to the Premier League in 2022, Niakhate joined for Forest for a cost of over £9 million.
He got injured in the first home game of 2022/23, tearing his hamstring from the bone and missing seven months of participation.
Last season was a touch more productive, with the 28-year-old making 24 appearances across all competitions.
Niakhate scored his only goal for Forest in a 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa, but he now appears to be leaving the City Ground.
Boulaye Dia referred to him as ‘Solid’ in September, and his defensive play is normally strong and intelligent.
With Niakhate’s departure, fresh center defenders are necessary.
This obviously leaves the Reds short defensively, and with Murillo on the radar of other clubs, another defender will be signed.
Selling Niakhate makes some sense, though.
It means Forest will not have to sell one of their treasured assets for a low price, and the club will also escape a point deduction.
Niakhate has had a number of minor injury issues throughout his tenure at Forest, and with that in mind, the choice appears to have been taken.
Throughout his career, the Senegal international has been a valuable member of the Forest squad.
However, the financial circumstances has made it necessary to trade Forest for Lyon, and Niakhate appears to be doing so.
