Kieffer Moore, Ipswich Town’s striker, had a troubling back injury during their win over Southampton, maintaining them one point ahead of Leeds United.
On Easter Monday, the Whites did their part to remain in the automatic promotion places by defeating Hull City 3-1 late on.
It keeps Leeds in the top two after Leicester City defeated Norwich City and Ipswich Town scored late at home against Southampton.
Ipswich secure another last-minute winner against Southampton.
With a 3-2 victory over Russell Martin’s Southampton, Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich remain top of the standings following Easter.
They had to come from behind to defeat the Saints, with replacements Nathan Broadhead and Jeremy Sarmiento scoring crucial goals in the second half, the latter poking home the winner with only seconds remained in the seven-minute extra time.
Further attacking changes were required for the home team after Ali Al-Hamadi was introduced in the 36th minute, with target man Kieffer Moore forced off due to a worrying back injury.
McKenna issued a worrisome Moore verdict for Ipswich
Speaking after the game, McKenna was unable to provide an exact figure for Moore’s absence this month.
He stated this (via LeedsLive):
“I haven’t received the medical report. He took a hard knock in the back. I believe it is completely locked up, which is not ideal. We’ll see how he does over the following few days.”
Moore’s departure is a setback for Ipswich, and a positive for Leeds.
Moore has been an excellent signing for Ipswich, bringing goals and solid link-up play at the top of the pitch for McKenna’s team.
It’s exactly the impact you need from a January loan signing, so his likely departure would be a major setback.
They have attacking options that are more than capable elsewhere, but the lack of a target man forces them to reconsider.
