Liverpool has been mostly idle in the transfer market thus far, and pundits across the world have taken it upon themselves to advise the club on who to buy this summer.
Despite being connected with enticing players such as Anthony Gordon, the Reds have failed to execute a trade.
The Newcastle United winger is eager to move to Liverpool, despite Newcastle United’s demand for a £100 million package for him. It remains to be seen whether the Reds will bite the bullet and invest heavily to lure him to Anfield.
Victor Osimhen is one player who Liverpool isn’t heavily associated with right now. Back in May, we reported that the Reds were ahead of Manchester United in the fight for the £112 million Serie A star, but things have quieted down since.
Don Hutchison, speaking on ESPN, suggested that Liverpool needs invest £100 million to bring Osimhen to Anfield.
“You’d be better off putting £100 million towards Osimhen. £50 million for Gordon does not make sense given Liverpool’s current roster.”
“They’ve got adequate cover. They have a lot of players in various positions, but what they lack (is a striker); as we saw near the end of the season, Darwin Nunez was inconsistent.”
Despite Hutchison’s claims, Liverpool are unlikely to sign Osimhen this summer. They spent a lot of money to bring Darwin Nunez to Merseyside and have invested in his development over the last few seasons.
Arne Slot’s squad also includes Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, both of whom can play at number nine. Overall, signing Osimhen would be a waste of money unless there is a large sale in the next few weeks.
