Liverpool have increased their transfer activities ahead of Friday’s deadline.
Until Tuesday, the Reds were the only Premier League club yet to sign a single player this summer.
That is no longer the case, with Liverpool signing Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, but he will remain in Spain on loan.
However, chatter has began to circulate on the Liverpool rumour mill about an exciting winger, and things appear to be moving in the right direction.
TalkSPORT host Jason Cundy has already characterized the reported deal as a “no-brainer” for Arne Slot’s team.
Federico Chiesa to Liverpool is a ‘no-brainer’, according to Jason Cundy.
Liverpool is thought to have opened talks with Juventus over Federico Chiesa in recent days.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chiesa is “super keen” on joining Liverpool, who are “confident” of making a deal.
Even better, the transfer price is expected to be about €15 million (£12.6 million), which is not very exorbitant for a world-class attacker in his prime.
Cundy stated on talkSPORT (27/8/2024, 4:53pm): “He has one year left on his contract. It feels like a no-brainer. 26 years of age. £10–£15 million. “Someone like him.”
Why bringing Chiesa to Liverpool is a brilliant idea, even though the Reds are already well-stocked in attack.
It may be said that Liverpool is not prioritising the correct positions this summer.
For example, Mamardashvili is a fantastic player, but he won’t join at Anfield until next year, and Liverpool don’t really need any new goalkeepers right now.
Similarly, the Reds are well-stocked in attack, so signing another attacker may not make as much sense as adding a new centre-back or defensive midfielder.
However, bringing Chiesa to Liverpool is a fantastic idea because a player of his caliber for such a modest sum does not come up very frequently.
Admittedly, Chiesa has had his share of injury issues in recent years, but the fact that Liverpool is already well-stocked in attack benefits all parties.
If Chiesa struggles with his fitness, the Reds have more than enough backup to not have to rely on him too heavily.
And if he stays fit and reaches the heights he is capable of, it could result in more vital goals and assists that could be the difference between top four and trophy.
