Jack Harrison has a £20 million release clause in his Leeds United contract, but Everton would be unable to activate it if the Whites were promoted this season, according to TEAMtalk.
On 7 February, the online football news outlet stated that, while Everton does not have the option to buy Harrison’s loan agreement, the release clause allows them to make his move permanent.
This news comes amid another £20 million transfer, with Luis Sinisterra expected to join Bournemouth permanently for that money after departing on loan in the summer.
Could Jack Harrison leave Leeds United permanently?
According to sources, Everton would be able to make their loan deal permanent despite not having the option to buy, with the release clause creating an excellent opportunity for the Toffees to sign a long-term deal.
However, Everton’s financial situation is precarious, and whether the club would be able to pay £20 million on a single move is an entirely separate question, and considering their lack of expenditure in January, it appears quite doubtful.
Leeds’ role in the matter has also been made public. Simon Leaf, one of the UK’s finest sports lawyers, stated that the club could still consider suing Everton because they feel unfairly treated as a result of their expenditures.
Sean Dyche could retain Harrison at Everton.
If Harrison is to leave Elland Road permanently, he will need to continue his great Premier League performances and hope Leeds is not promoted as well, but nobody at Elland Road is likely to want him to stay.
