Newcastle United failed to capture Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri during the winter transfer window.
According to writer Jorge Nicola, relayed by Fogão Net, the Magpies remain a viable option for Perri.
Nicola believes Newcastle attempted to lure the 27-year-old to St James’ Park in January. Lyon owner John Textor was hesitant to sanction a trade and postponed a potential sale until the summer.
The Premier League team could make another bid for the Brazilian at the end of the season.
Eddie Howe has five stoppers at his disposal: Nick Pope, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Martin Dúbravka, Mark Gillespie, and John Ruddy. The last three have contracts until June.
The journalist claims the Magpies could’move further in the negotiations’ to sign Perri this summer. The Brazilian joined the Ligue 1 club from Botafogo last summer, signing a contract that runs until 2028.
According to Nicola, the South American should cost between €20 and €30 million in the next window.
Bolavip has also reiterated his comments, stating that if Newcastle signs Perri, he will be able to accomplish his ‘dream of playing in the Premier League’.
Perri has nine clean sheets and 34 goals surrendered in 28 outings for Lyon this season.
Bruno Guimarães transferred from Lyon to Newcastle United in January 2022.
