The England international’s agency, CAA Stellar Sports, have a solid understanding with Newcastle United, but salaries will be a huge issue.
Newcastle United could make a bid for Manchester City’s Jack Grealish this summer, with his future at the Etihad Stadium in doubt.
The England international was connected with the Magpies at the start of the January transfer window, but Eddie Howe dismissed the reports earlier this year. Grealish’s representatives are now scouting the market for the 29-year-old’s next transfer, with City reportedly open to bids for his services.
The asking price for Grealish is anticipated to be a world away from the £100m City paid for his services to Aston Villa back in 2021. And, despite having two years left on his present £300,000 per week salary, he would have to accept a significant pay drop to join the Magpies.
The Newcastle head coach undoubtedly admires Grealish, identifying him as a “outstanding player” last year, and the winger reciprocates, saying of Howe in July 2024: “They have a great manager in Eddie Howe and they already have good players who can hurt you.”
“They had a nice window and brought in quality players. They pose a threat now and in the future.
Newcastle are believed to have some money to spend but would need to do some trade in order to make such a transfer work. St James’ Park may satisfy the boxes of Grealish and his representatives but it could still prove to be a deal beyond United’s finances right now.
Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, and his former club Aston Villa have all been mentioned as potential summer transfers. If Newcastle are to qualify for the Champions League, they will need a significant boost and a headline signing.
Fabian Schar conversations escalate.
After extending Martin Dubravka and Emil Krafth’s contracts this week, Eddie Howe’s next target to sign is the retired Swiss international.
The centre-back will turn 34 in December, and one of the big discussions has been whether he will still be considered a regular in the squad. Schar retired from the Swiss national team after 86 appearances in order to further his club career.
He remains a frequent option for Howe, but that might change if a new centre-back arrives in the summer, and Schar’s representatives are now seeking assurances.
Newcastle plans to expand its football operations team.
The Magpies are ready to add another layer of professionalism to their football operations squad by employing a women’s Academy manager. The club is already planning to add a women’s director of football to Becky Langley’s backroom squad, but Newcastle are now looking ahead.
The job advertisement reads: “Newcastle United Women are looking for a dynamic, experienced leader to oversee our Professional Game Academy. This is your opportunity to shape the next generation of talent and propel a successful, sustainable Academy to new heights!
“As Academy Manager, you will play a critical part in shaping our players’ futures by creating a safe and friendly environment in which both staff and players can thrive while adhering to all FA laws. You will lead a vibrant team and serve as a role model while upholding the Academy’s high standards of professional development and continual progress.
