Newcastle United signed a striker during the January transfer window.
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that this player will make an impact on Newcastle’s first-team squad anytime soon.
Kyle Fitzgerald, 18, will soon join Newcastle to train with the Magpies’ under-21 squad. Elsewhere, Georgian attacker Vakhtang Salia has agreed to join Newcastle in August when he turns 18.
Newcastle have also been working hard on keeping Alexander Isak at the club for the long term. Arsenal want to sign Isak but Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell have slapped a £150m asking price on the Swede.
Isak wants Champions League football and feels Newcastle can provide it this season. The Magpies are presently fifth in the Premier League, which could be enough to secure a return to Europe’s top competition under the UEFA Coefficient regulations.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has been an unstoppable goal-scoring machine. He once set a club record by scoring in eight consecutive games.
Newcastle want to acquire another striker in January, and while it appears unlikely this season, a young attacker might move to Tyneside in the summer, despite interest from elsewhere.

Benjamin Sesko’s ‘gentleman’s agreement’ amid Newcastle connection
Leipzig Benjamin Sesko has been on Newcastle’s radar for many years. The Magpies wanted Sesko in summer 2022 but the move never materialised.
He joined Leipzig in 2023 and has excelled this season. He has 17 goal involvements across all competitions, including four in the Champions League.
Newcastle wanted Sesko in January, along with Arsenal. However, Leipzig manager Marco Rose ruled out a January departure after receiving the Player of the Match award in a Champions League encounter.
According to Charlie Watts’ Daily Briefing, Sesko is more likely to join Arsenal.
Sesko denied the option to leave Leipzig in the summer to further his development, but that has not deterred Arsenal.
Watts reports that Sesko and Leipzig have reached a ‘gentleman’s deal’ that allows him to leave in the summer for a fee that both Newcastle and Arsenal can pay.
Sesko is eager for playing time, which could be a concern for Newcastle given how well Isak has performed this season. They are both out-and-out attackers, so until Howe adjusts his methods, they will probably not play together.
Alexander Isak’s Newcastle contract situation
Newcastle are keen to keep Isak. They need to work on a new contract for the Swede to ensure he stays for many years.
Isak’s contract talks with Newcastle will resume at the end of the season, with some possible stipulations reported.
Isak wants Callum Wilson’s number nine shirt and a huge pay rise which would see him become Newcastle’s highest earner, an accolade currently held by Bruno Guimaraes.
Given how well Isak has played this season, Howe and Mitchell will be keen to give him what he wants to keep him at the club.
