Newcastle United coach Jason Tindall warns Liverpool ahead of the Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United is returning to Wembley.

Indeed, the revitalized Newcastle United will face Liverpool in the 2025 Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium in March.

Newcastle easily defeated Arsenal on Wednesday evening, winning 2-0 at St James’ Park to complete an emphatic 4-0 aggregate triumph over the two legs.

Liverpool, however, thrashed Tottenham 4-0 the next day to advance to the final with a 4-1 aggregate win.

Wembley Stadium will be a spectacular venue. Granted, the Reds will undoubtedly be regarded as favourites, but Eddie Howe’s side impressed in a 3-3 Premier League draw with Arne Slot’s side in December.

Newcastle assistant manager Jason Tindall is well aware of the challenge ahead.

Tindall has had some disagreements with Liverpool in the past, however this was during the Jurgen Klopp era.

Howe’s assistant, known as a loving rouge among Newcastle fans, is aware that Liverpool has a wealth of talent but hopes the Magpies can improve on their performance in the 2023 final defeat to Manchester United.

Newcastle did not show up that day. Win or lose, this time must be different. Tindall has reminded his players that they must improve, especially against a strong Liverpool team.

Tindall told The Chronicle: “They are a top, top team with exceptional players, and we have to go to Wembley and learn from our previous experiences.”

“It’s another game for us, and we need to play at the same level as we did in the two semi-finals. And perhaps, we’ll be able to do better this time.”

Newcastle United should relish their underdog status for the Carabao Cup final

There’s no denying that Newcastle’s trophy history isn’t particularly noteworthy.

However, perhaps heading to Wembley as genuine underdogs can be a positive thing. Some of Howe’s best evenings have come against the conventional bigger teams, with historic victory over Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal living long in the memory.

Slot understands how excellent Newcastle is, and while his club will be considered favourites, this is something Newcastle should relish.

Oh, it would be so beautiful to see Tindall, of all people, lift that trophy.
