Neil Redfearn praised Leeds United defender Ethan Ampadu after the Whites’ impressive 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Friday night.
Daniel Farke’s Leeds side trailed the Foxes by a goal in the closing moments of the encounter at Elland Road.
However, Connor Roberts leveled in the 80th minute, sparking Leeds’ comeback and securing a comfortable victory.
Ampadu had a difficult night overall. Leeds needed his presence in midfield, and he was unable to make as great of an impact as he had hoped.
Nonetheless, he tried his best, getting plenty of touches on the ball and contributing a number of blocks and tackles.
Ampadu also won four ground duels and had a passing success rate of 91%, according to Sofascore.
Redfearn praised Ampadu’s performance on BBC Radio Leeds, calling it “fantastic” in the last few minutes.
“He’s not a big lad but he plays like someone who’s seven foot.”
Struggling Leeds rally to secure late win over Leicester
Leeds fell down in the 15th minute when Wout Faes headed in unchallenged from a Leicester corner.
The visitors were lively for much of the game, while the Whites battled. Stephy Mavididi pulled Illan Meslier into a fantastic save, while Patson Daka’s goal was called out for offside.
Leeds, on the other hand, managed to restore parity with just 10 minutes remaining in normal time, with Roberts scoring following a Jannik Vestergaard blunder.
Three minutes later, Archie Gray appeared to score his first senior goal, a shot from within the area that deflected twice on its way to the net.
Then, Patrick Bamford finished off a Dan James effort to make it 3-1 and seal an improbable – but joyful and very necessary – win for the Whites.
Leeds now lead the Championship table by three points over third-placed Ipswich Town.
The Whites are now only six points behind table-toppers Leicester.
