According to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds United and Paris Saint-Germain are not currently in talks about signing Crysencio Summerville.
On his Daily Briefing (4 July), the dependable journalist responded to allegations from Telegraaf [2 July] that the French giants want to sign the 22-year-old winger following his excellent season in the Championship in 2023/24.
However, according to Romano, talks were quick and only occurred because he shared an agent with another player PSG is interested in signing, with no more discussions taking place between the teams or Summerville’s agents.
“My understanding is that the situation is: Summerville shares the same agents as Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida,” he said.
“PSG is in personal contact with Geertruida, and Summerville was mentioned during those talks, but no negotiations are currently taking place between the clubs or the players’ agents.
“It’s an open race with Brighton and more clubs interested.”
Leeds United still expects to lose Crysencio Summerville.
After losing Archie Gray to Tottenham in a sad trade, Leeds are in a far stronger position to sign the rest of their stars this summer.
Leeds is expected to move Summerville on if they receive an acceptable offer [Ben Jacobs, 24 June], however the criteria of an acceptable offer has most certainly changed.
Romano previously reported that the Whites wanted between £35-40 million to allow the Dutch star leave, but that figure may potentially be somewhat higher as their financial position improves.
That means Brighton may be out of the race after spending £33 million on Yankuba Minteh, but other clubs are certainly intrigued.
However, PSG seems unlikely to make the transfer, and Summerville appears to be more likely to stay in England, whether at Elland Road or elsewhere.
