“My understanding”: Ben Jacobs discusses what he’s currently learning on Leeds United and James McAtee

Leeds United have been linked to Manchester City talent James McAtee as Pep Guardiola’s side have made their decision on the midfielder’s future.

Leeds will approach January acquisitions in a “relatively young” manner, according to Daniel Farke.

James McAtee, a target for Leeds in transfer window, is someone who falls into that category.

It has now been revealed whether the 22-year-old would likely arrive at Elland Road this winter or if Man City will make a different decision.

James McAtee’s move to Leeds from Manchester City is ‘unlikely’

Man City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that he does not expect McAtee to leave this window and that the midfielder’s future would be assessed at the end of the season.

McAtee has struggled for playing time since returning to his parent club this season, after prior impressive loan periods with Sheffield United in the Premier League and Championship.

On the Fully Loaded Transfer Show (1:01:40), journalist Ben Jacobs provided an update on McAtee’s predicament, which does not favour Farke’s side.

“For whatever reason, he’s not receiving a lot of game time right now. I believe you might have two options: he stays or he leaves permanently.

“Manchester City believe they can keep him in the Premier League, and his standards are too high to drop to the Championship.” I doubt McAtee will go to Leeds.”

This is a worrying possibility for Leeds, but Farke’s ambitions may not be doomed.

Leeds may continue pursuing the no.10 slot following McAtee blow.

Leeds are aiming to sign four new players in January, but a new attacking midfielder is not currently in the plans.

But according to journalist Graham Smyth, Leeds might sign a number 10 in January, and an MLS player has been connected to a move to Elland Road.

Diego Luna, who made an impression with Real Salt Lake in America, is being considered by Farke’s team and might be a good choice for Leeds’ offensive midfield position.

Leeds’ pursuit of Burnley’s Mike Tresor, who can also excel in the no. 10 position, has also been mentioned as an alternative to McAtee.

Tresor has had a terrible time at Burnley and would be eager to go if Leeds approach. However, the Belgian playmaker has suffered from injuries ever since he joined Turf Moor.

Overall, it appears like McAtee’s alternative is out of the question, but Leeds can find a good substitute.
