MOT View: Leeds makes an obvious jab at Georginio Rutter with their statement today

Georginio Rutter appears to have severed all links with Leeds United, and things could become ugly with his transfer to Brighton.

The 23-year-old completed his £40 million transfer to the Premier League team [BBC Sport], with the announcement accompanied by the tagline “Don’t go to bed just yet”, which provoked outrage on social media.

Rutter became a beloved figure at Elland Road, and while he is unlikely to understand the content of the message, supporters have been disappointed by the situation.

Though he is no longer a Leeds player, the Whites appear to have responded in their own manner, ahead of the announcement of Largie Ramazani’s departure from Almeria.

An X caption reading “Marching on TOGETHER” can be seen scribbled on the laptop in a post on the club’s official X account [22 August], evidently aimed to Rutter and his announcement in Brighton.

Leeds United aim a direct jab at Georginio Rutter.

Most Leeds fans will understand what the Brighton media crew was alluding to, but Rutter will most likely be unaware.

Clearly comparing the statement to Leeds’ extremely dismal transfer window about ten years ago, with the club posting the above quote before selling players and failing to get anyone in, it’s no surprise that fans are furious.

And, until the recent updates on Ramazani, Elland Road fans will have had a similar sense, with the departures of Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, and Archie Gray, with few successors being signed.

With only eight days until the transfer window closes, fans will need to be patient as Daniel Farke awaits more fresh faces at Elland Road.

It’s a huge shame that Rutter’s time with the Whites has ended so badly, especially because it wasn’t his fault, and things could become even worse if either club says anything else.
