MOT View: Leeds fans will be in hysterics with nasty social-media attack at Frank Lampard

Leeds United fans will be pleased with their team’s covert dig at Frank Lampard following their victory against Coventry City.

The Whites released on X (6 February) their own attempt at a ‘Lampardian transition’ the morning following their 2-0 triumph at the CBS Arena, in which Lampard made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Daniel Farke’s team dominated Wednesday’s victory over United’s long-time rival, and the club joining the Lampard bandwagon by imitating his standard interview line will be a popular decision.

Leeds’ X post stated, “No, but seriously, how good was last night!”

Leeds United will cherish the opportunity to insult Frank Lampard.

Lampard has long been despised by United fans since he began his managerial career, sparking the infamous ‘Spygate’ saga when his Derby side faced Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites.

Lampard, who returned to the Championship dugouts this season following ill-fated seasons with Everton and Chelsea in the Premier League, had his promising start at Coventry come to an end on Wednesday.

Lampard didn’t help himself as a villain in the eyes of Leeds fans by cupping his ears to the raucous away end at the CBS Arena and then bizarrely dismissing his actions and remarks after the game.

Lampard’s first meeting with United since September 2022 did not go as planned, despite the fact that the Whites had another game in three days.

Given Lampard’s reaction to renditions of an Oasis-inspired chant from his Derby days, the EFL’s disciplinary board could be his next stop, capping off a forgettable night for the 46-year-old.
