Leeds United fans were left with mixed feelings after Daniel Farke’s team defeated Cardiff City 2-0 on Saturday (September 21).
Despite winning all three points at Cardiff City Stadium and playing against 10 men for the majority of 70 minutes after Joel Bagan was sent red, the Whites were not very impressive.
Largie Ramazani opened the goal just seven minutes after Bagan’s red card, finishing a move in flair, before Joel Piroe assisted Pascal Struijk in putting his penalty miss behind him.
Brenden Aaronson assisted Piroe in securing the win for Farke’s side, giving them some comfort with three minutes remaining, but the American should be dissatisfied with his performance.
Since returning from last season’s loan spell at Union Berlin, the 23-year-old has reclaimed a berth in the starting lineup, regaining Farke’s faith as well as the fans’.
Brenden Aaronson will face the axe ahead of Leeds United vs Coventry
While Aaronson played a key role in securing all three points in Cardiff, his performance was far from convincing, and Farke will be aware of his inconsistent possession.
Though he completed 80% of his passes, the attacking midfielder lost 100% of his ground duels (0/7) and just 60% of his aerial duels (3/5), resulting in nine duels lost [FotMob].
Aaronson was also dispossessed four times, the most of any of his teammates, and missed one good chance while being caught offside once.
The 23-year-old is presently competing with Piroe for the starting offensive midfield berth, and after the latter’s impactful performance against Cardiff, it is clear who should start against Coventry.
Piroe scored with his lone shot, had 100% shot accuracy, completed 100% of his dribbles, won 100% of his ground duels, and made one recovery.
The Dutchman needed to make an impression if he was to persuade Farke that he was ready to start, and that is exactly what he did at Cardiff City Stadium.
