Leeds United are one of the Championship’s finest teams this season. The West Yorkshire club had acquired a plethora of talent to their ranks and appeared to be on track to earn promotion.
The Whites almost missed out on Premier League promotion last season, losing in the playoff final to Southampton.
There’s little doubt that Leeds would have like to be promoted right away, but now that they’re in the second tier for another season, they can bolster their ranks even further.
Many players, including Max Wober, have returned from season-long loans last season and will be hoping to help the Whites win Premier League promotion.
Wober has been left out of Daniel Farke’s squad since the season began, and while he has been nursing an injury suffered in pre-season, it is unclear how and when Farke will put the Austrian in his starting lineup.
However, given his recent performance for Austria against Kosovo, it appears that the German will need to restructure his squad in order to accommodate the former RB Salzburg star into his first-team fold.
Max Wober deserves an opportunity with Leeds United’s first team.
Wober is possibly the most hated player by fans among those who returned to Leeds following a season on loan.
Upon his return to action for the Whites, supporters booed and jeered the defender, who many expected to leave the club during the transfer season.
Borussia Monchengladbach wanted to sign the 26-year-old but couldn’t agree on a fee [Rheinische Post, 29 July].
Since the talks broke down, Wober has underlined his willingness to stay [Sky Sports Austria, 4 September] and compete for promotion with the West Yorkshire club.
Many supporters may believe the defender is no better than Joe Rodon or Pascal Struijk, but after being praised by Austrian media for his performance against Kosovo, their perceptions may change.
There is still plenty of time for Wober to make an impact this season, but the sooner Farke entrusts the defenders, the better, so that each player knows where they are in terms of the starting XI.
