Leeds United have found a new creative force in Brenden Aaronson this season.
While Daniel Farke spent much of the summer transfer window hunting for a new number 10, the US international has subsequently claimed the position.
Bids for players like Gustavo Hamer [The Star, 11 October] were made, but looking back, it’s difficult to understand how Farke could drop Aaronson for the Brazilian if a deal came together.
His recent performance in Leeds’ 2-1 victory over Watford at Elland Road on Tuesday (22 October) has only strengthened his position in Farke’s squad.
Brenden Aaronson is now vital to Leeds United’s setup.
Aaronson’s return to Elland Road was initially received with criticism from supporters when the American elected to leave West Yorkshire and join Union Berlin on loan following the Whites’ relegation last season.
Many fans were skeptical of his reintegration into the squad because of how things ended, but Aaronson’s redemption journey has rightfully turned a few heads.
According to Sofascore, the midfielder played the entire 90-minute match and had 56 touches on the ball.
He also maintained a pass accuracy of 79%, and arguably the most astounding number of all was the five vital passes he made during the match.
Aaronson also had two shots in the game, one of which found the back of the net and the other of which went slightly off course.
Of the four dribbles he attempted, 50% were successful, demonstrating his ability to move forward in games.
While the attacker lost possession 16 times, it’s to be anticipated when you’re as involved in a game as he is.
Leeds are just 10 games into their Championship season, but if things continue as they have, and Aaronson continues his current run of form, it’s difficult to see how they won’t be promoted to the Premier League before the end of the season.
