According to reports, Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United transfer story has taken a new turn. Although there were indications that he would leave in the January transfer window, the Red Devils forward has a “plausible” chance of staying at Old Trafford.

Rashford was benched during United’s match against local rivals Manchester City in December, which sparked intense discussion about his future under Ruben Amorim. A few days later, he made open remarks that he would be ready for a new challenge elsewhere. Since then, Rashford has not played for his boyhood club, which could see him leave in the window, according to The Athletic.

Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Juventus, and other Premier League teams are reportedly mulling a move to recruit him on loan this month, with a deal until the summer being considered, according to a report by journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Despite the club’s desire to part ways and the England international’s openness to fresh opportunities, it is likely that Rashford will remain at United as no decisions have been made by the interested parties as of yet.

Marcus Rashford’s Premier League statistics – Man Utd squad ranking
    Stats Output Squad rank
    Appearances 15 =10th
    Goals 4 =1st
Key Passes Per Game 1 =5th
    Shots Per Game 1.1 5th
    Dribbles Per Game 0.6 =6th
    Match rating 6.72 7th

Nonetheless, it is believed that outside interest is growing, and talks are underway to determine the viability of a loan move out. Jadon Sancho, a struggling star who is now thriving at Chelsea, was the subject of a similar agreement with United and Dortmund last summer, but there are a lot of variables to consider, so a deal might take some time.

With three and a half years remaining on his contract, Rashford makes over £325,000 per week at United. If he were to leave, United would want to cover the majority of that. Rashford would also want the best career change possible if he wants to get back to his best during the next 18 months leading up to England’s anticipated World Cup 2026 trip under Thomas Tuchel.

Since his 15-minute cameo against Brazil in March, Rashford has not played for England. He was left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for EURO 2024 and the ensuing Nations League campaign under Lee Carsley, which may be a pressing matter for him as this is probably one of only two World Cup competitions he will participate in before retiring.
