Mo Salah drops five-word Liverpool contract update hours before Newcastle clash

Mo Salah appears to be no closer to agreeing on a contract extension at Liverpool Football Club.

As things stand, the Egyptian wonder is expected to leave the Reds for free when his contract expires this summer.

The No.11 has been instrumental in the club’s bid for their first Premier League title since the 2019/20 season.

In the 2024/25 season, he contributed a total of 51 goals (30 goals, 21 assists) throughout 38 games (all competitions).

Surprisingly, it appears that won’t be enough to keep him at Anfield past the summer.

Mo Salah is leaving Liverpool’s exit door.

Salah spoke with Steve McManaman on his time at Liverpool in a preview before of our match against top four contenders Newcastle United.

In an emotional interview, the former Roma hitman expressed his love for the team and the city.

“I want fans to remember that I gave everything I had to the fans and the city.” I was here, I wasn’t lazy, I just liked football and gave it my all,” the Egyptian told TNT Sports.

“I believe that is what the city is about: they offer you love, and you feel a connection with them because you give your best.

“I just want them to remember that I was here for eight years and I gave it all.”

The former Red then asked the obvious question about Salah’s future, to which the No.11 responded: “In a very polite way [no].”

When asked about setting records at Liverpool and in England, he replied, “If I stay in this nation, I will consider it.

“But so far, I’m just thinking about winning the Premier League, and we’ll see at the end of the season.”

It’s not exactly a comforting update from the main guy (as many may have expected), despite what appeared to be some reason for optimism in Arne Slot’s pre-match press conference.

There looked to be some indication that a contract breakthrough was on the horizon, but the reporting in question is far from accurate.

    Restarting from the beginning.
