Michael Edwards is now working hard to obtain the first important signing of Arne Slot’s tenure at Liverpool.
The CEO of Football at Anfield has yet to complete a transfer this summer – his first since returning to Liverpool – but it appears that the man from Portsmouth is now close to concluding an expensive deal for a player who has previously professed to admiring the Reds.
So, who is Michael Edwards talking to about joining Liverpool? Let us have a look.
Liverpool are in advanced talks to recruit Takefusa Kubo.
According to a report from Sponichi in Japan, Liverpool is in early talks to recruit Takefusa Kubo and is willing to pay £55 million for the Real Sociedad number 14 this summer.
Rumours of Liverpool’s advanced negotiations were covered by TBR Football on Sunday, but to bring the narrative forward, the Japan international’s statements regarding the Reds from 2019 are worth investigating, as Sponichi fails to provide any insight into whether the winger wants to come to Anfield.
Interestingly, when asked to list his favourite European teams, Kubo rated Liverpool as a “awesome” football club, telling Goal: “The team I think plays the most interesting football is Liverpool.” When I watch their games, I feel like they’re fantastic. I wouldn’t say they’re my favorite, but they’re excellent.”
Last season, the 23-year-old scored seven goals and assisted five times in 41 appearances across all competitions while playing on the right side of the attack.
New Mohamed Salah
Sponichi mentions that Liverpool feel Kubo has what it takes to replace Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
The Egypt international might depart Liverpool shortly as he reaches the final year of his contract.
Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in signing Salah from Liverpool, and it remains to be seen if the Reds will cash in now or risk losing their talisman for free in 2025.
Whatever happens to the Egyptian, Edwards appears to believe Kubo has the talent to replace him on Merseyside.
