Michael Dawson recounts what he has heard about Evangelos Marinakis at Nottingham Forest

Michael Dawson has stated that Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis does not expect a relegation battle this season.

Forest will want to forget this season, as they find themselves at the bottom of the league table.

Their stalemate against Luton Town on Saturday hasn’t changed much at the bottom of the table, but an opportunity to gain ground on a competitor has passed.

    Dawson Issues Marinakis claims

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team had to settle for a point at Kenilworth Road on Saturday after taking the lead.

Chris Wood gave the visitors the lead in the first half, but maximum points were lost as Luke Berry leveled in the final minutes of the game.

Forest are still three points above the relegation zone, but they face a points deduction from the Premier League.

Dawson told Sky Sports before to the game this afternoon that the Forest owner expected a lot more given the money had been invested.

He stated, “The owner did not anticipate their being in this position. One, with a points deduction hanging over them, but I’m sure he wasn’t expecting a relegation battle given the money they’d spent.

“But that simply shows how tough the Premier League is. I always told them that if they got promoted, they should stay for a few years to establish themselves. Don’t think you’ll be a top ten team for a long time.”

    Nottingham Forest transfers 23-24

Forest have spent heavily since their promotion to the Premier League just a few years ago.

They even beat the record for the most players signed in a single transfer window in the summer of 2022.

Over £160 million was spent across both transfer windows that season.

Nonetheless, Forest are still mixing with the relegation-threatened teams this season.

In comparison to Luton, the money invested is astonishing, and the Forest owner plainly hasn’t had a good return on his investment.

Espirito Santo’s team had a huge opportunity to widen the distance on the drop zone over the weekend, but they could have ended up in the bottom three instead.

If Forest manage to keep their Premier League position this season, there will be some concerns about why the money spent is not being matched by the results on the pitch.
