Maximilian Wober has spoken out about his probable move from Leeds United to Borussia Monchengladbach this summer.
According to BILD [17 June], the Bundesliga club would love to have the 26-year-old back to Germany next season, but Leeds want at least £12.6 million for him to leave permanently.
Monchengladbach is thought to be hopeful that the Whites will decrease their asking price for the defender, who is now in Austria for Euro 2024.
Wober told BILD on Wednesday (19 June): “There is currently total radio silence on both sides.” Leeds informed me that conversations will take place after the European Championship. They want me to focus on Austria for the time being.
“In Gladbach, I bid farewell to everyone and thanked them for a fun year. So far, I’ve heard nothing about it.
Maximilian Wober left in the dark about Leeds United’s future.
Wober is another Leeds player that left after being relegated from the Premier League, though it is unclear whether he will be reinstated in the team at Elland Road.
It seems likely that he will join the list of loanees due to be sold permanently, such as Marc Roca to Real Betis or Robin Koch to Frankfurt, but his price tag may be a concern moving into the summer.
The centre-back played in Austria’s opening 1-0 loss to France on Monday, June 17, a performance that will have done little to boost his worth as he was booked early and hooked on the hour mark.
Leeds United, on the other hand, may need to plan strategically during the summer transfer window. Joe Rodon’s future with the club is uncertain, and Liam Cooper has yet to sign a new contract.
Daniel Farke would then have Ethan Ampadu, a natural midfielder, Pascal Struijk, who is prone to injury, and Charlie Cresswell, an outsider.
If the Whites keep Wober this summer, they will have an experienced defender moving into the 2024/25 season, having made 27 appearances across all competitions last season.
