Following Leeds United’s latest victory, Paul Merson has urged Ipswich and Leicester to step up their Championship promotion bids.
The Whites defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough on Friday night to reclaim the automatic promotion places.
Merson also stated that he expects a “massive” day in the Championship as Ipswich travels to Cardiff and Leicester travels to Hull, with both teams requiring wins to keep the pressure on at the top of the table.
“Massive day in the Championship as well at both ends of the table,” he posted on his personal Twitter account on March 9.
“Ipswich and Leicester facing tough games today both needing to pick up wins as Leeds are flying.”
Leeds United cannot do more.
The Whites have been in absolutely spectacular form in 2024, with 11 victories and a tie from their first 12 Championship games, with their only setback coming in injury time to Chelsea.
That has allowed them to significantly cut the distance on Leicester at the top of the league, and they are now able to compete for the crown rather than merely second place.
Daniel Farke has already had a fantastic season for the Peacocks, taking maximum points from the two closest contenders this season by defeating both clubs at home and away.
At this point, all Leeds can do is keep winning games and trying their best to capitalise on any mistakes made by Leicester, Ipswich, or even Southampton.
If results go their way on Saturday, it will be an extremely active finale to the season, with each result meaning more and more, so it will undoubtedly be entertaining.
