If we believe Mohamed Salah’s perspective on his future, he is likely to depart Liverpool at the end of the season.
In his most recent media appearance, he stated unequivocally that he and the club are not close to reaching an agreement to extend his contract, and that he wanted to focus solely on football for the remainder of the season.
And, while this does not rule out the possibility of continuing at Liverpool for a few more years, it is apparent that he understands what he is worth, and the club has yet to reach the same amount in the negotiations.
Salah may now contact with agents from teams all around the world about extending his contract beyond this season, and there are plenty of prospective suitors, particularly those headquartered in Saudi Arabia.
Salah signed an agreement.
Abdulhadi – a member of the Saudi Federation of Sports Media – is stating on X (previously Twitter) that Spanish sources are certain that Salah has reached an agreement.
The statement on social media begins: “Today, Mohamed Salah concluded his agreement with representatives from Saudi Arabia to play in the Roshn League next season, but he does not know the name of the club yet.”
The Roshn League is another name for the Saudi Pro League and although it might appear strange that Salah does not know his club yet, if this rumour is to be believed, there is some logic to the practice.
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) has full ownership of four clubs in the league – Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli.
And so while this agreement might be construed on the face of it as a pre-contract agreement with a specific cluba, it could be that Salah has agreed with the government to play in the country, but he will not know who he will play for until the organisation makes a decision.
Salah’s potential participation in the Saudi Pro League has long been speculated, with Al-Hilal named as the main contender to sign the Egyptian.
Whether this report is accurate will be a waiting game, as sources are frequently incorrect, and the lack of specificity in the agreement signals that its accuracy should be questioned.
However, given the absence of a breakthrough between Salah and Liverpool, there is a very real prospect that Salah might depart, with this newest report suggesting that the writing may already be on the wall.
